Examinations are taken on a traditional supervised written basis. These are set and marked by the Institute of Chess. For further information about the Institute of Chess, please see the website www.instituteofchess.co.uk
The marking scheme at all levels is as follows:
- 100%
- Distinction: 80% - 99%
- Merit: 65% - 79%
- Pass: 50% - 64%
In cases where a candidate has not reached the pass mark, an individual advisory report is issued identifying areas requiring further revision.
